Not one for mediocrity, Mother Nature frequently pushes the envelope, creating something so extraordinary that it eclipses others of its kind. In the plant and animal kingdoms, she has endowed certain species with exceptional size, speed, longevity, fecundity, or stamina. On the Earth's surface, she has carved features so spectacular that they draw visitors from across the globe to witness their magnitude. And in her favorite venue for excess--the weather--she sets records annually.

This deck of Knowledge Cards covers forty-eight of Nature's superlatives in the areas of geography, biology, and climate. Which mammal bears the most young? (No, not the rabbit.) Where will you find the world's driest and wettest locations? (They're both in South America.) Which insect is the most destructive? (One of their migrating swarms covered 2,000 square miles.) With fascinating answers to questions like these, Extreme Nature will delight inquisitive thrillseekers of all ages.

Close observation of our surroundings is one of the biggest joys of being outdoors. And we humans--the naming animal--enjoy ourselves more when we know, or can find out, what we're observing. An effortless carry in a pocket or day pack, this 48-card deck satisfies our hardwired urge to identify. A picture of a bird's or animal's footprints appears on one side of each card; the other side names the creature and presents its taxonomic data, physical characteristics, footprint size, and diet, and notes on its natural history.

How do you tell a badger's track from a porcupine's, or a red-headed woodpecker's from a redtailed hawk's? Animal & Bird Tracks will reveal the contrasts at a glance. You'll savor your new knowledge, improve your trail craft, and get even more pleasure from the time you spend with nature.

This deck of 48 Knowledge Cards invites you to determine a location on the basis of certain clues. A clue--for example, "Suddenly, all is calm after days of rafting on thick, red water through furious rapids in Arizona's high desert. Where in the World Are You?"--appears on one side of each card. The opposite side answers the question and furnishes notes and observations on such topics as the location's geological formation, ecology, and features. The cards' content is as diverse as their subjects, but all yield solid information, dry humor, and fine entertainment for the agile of mind. Whether you're a seasoned world traveler or embarking on your first big backcountry adventure, these cards will provide puzzlement and pleasure on the trip to the trailhead.

Everyone who ventures into the backcountry goes equipped with tips for preventing or treating the injuries and maladies that can arise there . . . don't they?

This deck of 48 Knowledge Cards will see that you do, at least. It's compact enough to go anywhere in a pocket; its Q&A quiz format means that you'll be entertained while you learn; and its contents deal with most of the nasties that the outback can inflict on a visitor. Each card poses a question on the front--How might you retrieve a lost companion? Treat frostbite, snakebite, heat stroke? What could you do in a mountain lion encounter?--with a knowledgeable, succinct answer on the back.

Art Wolfe's dazzling color photographs capture the allure of 48 intriguing residents of rainforests from around the world. The back of each card is a synopsis of the animal: common and scientific names, distinguishing marks, geographical distribution, preferred habitat, and points of interest. Among the more unusual animals are the cyclash viper of South America, Horsefield's tarsier from Sumatra and Borneo, Australia's black wallaby, and the colorful (and adorable looking) red-shanked douc langur from central Vietnam, as well as the familiar giant anteater, cougar, orangutan, and coatimundi.

Is your sexual vocabulary flaccid? Does your libidinous lexicon need a lift? If so—or even if you’re already an erotic verbal virtuoso—you’ll love this deck of 48 naughty Knowledge Cards by Charles Harrington Elster.

Each card presents one or more deliciously obscure words about sexual desire and behavior, along with an illustrative sentence. (For example, “Betty loved amomaxia, but it sometimes led to amychesis; Clarence had the scars to prove it.”) On the back of each card you’ll find easy-to-read pronunciations and amusingly written definitions.

Use these wickedly entertaining cards to flirt with your poplolly (significant other) or tantalize your friends. Devise a salacious parlor game with them or fondle them in the privacy of your bedroom.
